Anne Peters, MD

Dr. Anne Peters is a world-renowned diabetes expert whose work has transformed care for people living with diabetes across the globe. A professor at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and a Senior Scholar at the USC Leonard D. Schaeffer Institute for Public Policy & Government Service, she has dedicated more than 25 years to improving—and often saving—the lives of people with diabetes.
Dr. Peters has led diabetes programs in both well-served Beverly Hills and under-resourced East Los Angeles, giving her a unique perspective on the profound inequities that shape health outcomes. Her unwavering commitment to reducing disparities has helped thousands of patients access lifesaving treatment, technology, and education. Her model of care, developed through long-standing collaboration with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, has informed diabetes programs around the world.
A highly sought-after speaker and educator, Dr. Peters has taught clinicians across Africa, India, China, Europe, the United Kingdom, and throughout the United States, sharing practical tools that improve care and outcomes for people living with diabetes. She has served as principal investigator on numerous research grants, authored more than 300 scientific publications and four books, and delivered lectures on nearly every continent.
Beyond her clinical and academic work, Dr. Peters is a respected public voice whose essays have been featured in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, JAMA, and Annals of Internal Medicine. She has testified before the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee on preventive health care and played key roles in national and international diabetes guidelines, including leadership positions with the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), the Endocrine Society, and the National Institutes of Health.
Her contributions have been recognized with numerous prestigious honors, including the ADA Outstanding Physician Clinician Award, the National Minority Quality Forum’s Bernardo Alberto Houssay Award, the Endocrine Society’s Laureate Award for Public Service, and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology’s Alan J. Garber Lectureship.
